Vernon Carlton Baldwin

Asheville - Vernon Carlton Baldwin, 74, of 106 School Road died Sunday March 24, 2002 at his home after an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and a member of the AMVETS club. He was a son of the late Theadore and Ethel Wright Baldwin. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Ruth Baldwin of the home; daughters, Barbara Ann Westbrock of Wake Forest, Gail Lingerfelt of Lincolnton and Pat Baldwin of Marshall; son, Jack Baldwin of Fairview; sister, Mary Ball of Swannanoa; 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Page officiating. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
