Vickie Reneé Owens

Mar 18, 1970 — Jul 3, 2026

Leicester

Vickie Reneé Owens, cherished daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and steadfast servant of the Lord, departed peacefully from this life and went to be with The Lord on Friday, July 3, 2026, at her sister's home in Leicester while surrounded by her loving family. She left behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness that will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew her.

Born on March 18, 1970, in Asheville, Vickie’s life was shaped by her deep roots in community and her dedication to those she loved. She spent her earliest years in the embrace of her family, learning the enduring values of loyalty, compassion, and devotion that she would later impart to so many others.

Vickie graduated from the Lucy S. Herring School. Her caring nature and unwavering warmth found special expression in the way she devoted herself to her nieces and nephews. She lovingly cared for them, providing not only guidance but endless affection, their laughter and smiles a source of joy in her life.

A life-long member of South Turkey Creek Baptist Church, Vickie’s faith served as her cornerstone. She was God-fearing and deeply loved The Lord, always quick to say she would “Let her light shine.” Vickie’s spiritual strength was evident in every aspect of her life and in her gentle, encouraging presence to her church family.

Throughout the years, Vickie embraced a variety of passions. She looked forward each year to dancing in the "Night To Shine" event, sponsored by Tim Tebow, a celebration that brought her immense happiness and further demonstrated her joyous spirit. She found solace and delight being outdoors—be it camping, fishing, or simply savoring the beauty of flowers that she so adored. Vickie had an unmistakable fondness for dolphins, and it was no secret that she enjoyed the simple pleasures of chocolate. Her love for babies and children was profound, as she delighted in their innocence and possibility.

Vickie’s family was her world. She is survived by her devoted siblings: James Cecil Owens, Martha Ledford, Wilma Cagle, and Melba Peek. Her memory will also be cherished by her many beloved nieces and nephews, who were each blessed by her attentive and tender love.

She now joins in peace those who went before her: her beloved parents, Lonzo Morgan Owens and Vernie Martha King Owens; her sisters, Glenda Kay Owens and Nita Mae Sams; her brother, Lonzo Allen Owens; and her niece, Donna Sams. Their memories remain in the hearts of those who continue to walk this earth.

The Owens family welcomes all who knew and loved Vickie to honor her life. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home, located at 1428 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at South Turkey Creek Baptist Church, 24 W R King Drive, Leicester, NC. Vickie will be laid to rest in the South Turkey Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Dean Rice, Ricky Wolfe, Matthew Peek, and Melvin Teague.

Vickie Reneé Owens’s life radiated warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith. While the sorrow of her loss is deeply felt, so too is our gratitude for having been touched by her love. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
