Wayne Kenneth Marin, Sr. GMC (USN, Ret.), passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, in Asheville, North Carolina, at the age of 67. Born on January 15, 1959, in Poughkeepsie, New York, Wayne led a life marked by deep commitment to his country, his family, and the passions he cherished.
Wayne served his country with honor and distinction, dedicating a total of 21 years to the United States military. His career began in the U.S. Navy, followed by a period of service in the Army, and culminated in a return to the Navy where he retired as a Chief Petty Officer Gunners Mate. Throughout his years of service, Wayne embodied the values of duty, honor, and dedication that define true military service. He was also a longtime member of the American Legion, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to supporting veterans and his community.
Beyond his impressive military career, Wayne was a man who loved the finer details of life. He had a profound appreciation for cars and guns, interests that reflected his meticulous nature and passion for craftsmanship and precision. His affection for the Philippines highlighted a connection that held special meaning to him, adding a unique dimension to his life story.
Wayne is survived by his beloved sons, Haden John Marin and Wayne Kenneth Marin, Jr., who carry forward his legacy. He was also a proud grandfather to Waylon Marin. Family was central to Wayne’s life, and he valued his close relationships with his siblings—Steve Marin and his wife Helen, as well as Linda Marin Crotty and her husband Alan. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who remember him fondly. Among his closest companions was his best friend, Francis Steele, whose friendship was a source of comfort and strength.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Kenneth Marin, Sr. and Vivian Alice Bennett Marin, and his brother, Richard Marin, whose memories he carried with him throughout his life.
A graveside service to honor Wayne’s memory will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, located at 962 Old US Highway 70, Black Mountain, NC 28711, with military honors provided by the US Navy. The service will provide family, friends, and fellow veterans an opportunity to pay their respects and celebrate the remarkable life of a dedicated service member and beloved family man.
Wayne Kenneth Marin’s legacy is one of unwavering service, steadfast love for his family, and a life enriched by his interests and friendships. His memory will endure with those who knew him and cherished him, and his contributions to his country will not be forgotten.
