William "Doc" Embler, Jr.

Candler - William Doc Embler, Jr., 82, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late William Crawford Embler, Sr. and Ina Whitaker Embler. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jane Autrey and her husband Robert. Mr. Embler was a U.S. Army Veteran, a graduate of Western Carolina University and taught high school biology at Asheville School for many years. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Ann Mabrey Ember; children: Elaine Embler (Steve Hill) of Asheville, and Doug Embler (Tina) of Arden; grandson, Hunter Embler; brother, Bob Embler (Gail) of Weaverville; and nieces and nephew: Dawn, Denise, Jonathan, Elizabeth, and Margaret. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the William Doc Embler, Jr. Scholarship Fund, Asheville School, 360 Asheville School Rd, Asheville, NC 28806. The family extends their sincere appreciation to all his friends and caregivers at Pisgah Manor Retirement Center for their love, support and friendship during his final years.
