William "Steve" Parker

October 23, 1956 — April 27, 2026

Asheville

William "Steve" Parker, a devoted family man, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, in his hometown of Asheville, North Carolina. Born on October 23, 1956, Steve lived a life marked by dedication, compassion, and a deep connection to both his community and nature.

A proud graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School's class of 1975, Steve devoted much of his working career to Hayes and Lunsford, where he specialized in rebuilding electrical motors. His commitment to his trade reflected his meticulous nature and dependable character.

Beyond his professional achievements, Steve was a man who cherished the outdoors and found great joy in fishing. In his younger years, he was actively involved in the local racing scene, working on race cars and attending races—a passion that spoke to his love for precision and speed. However, above all, Steve’s greatest pride and calling was his role as a caregiver. He selflessly supported his family through times of sickness and need, offering comfort and refuge. He lovingly cared for his mother, grandmother, and sisters, always ready to open his home in support. Steve was also a steadfast father figure to his niece, Angela Leatherwood, who held a special place in his heart.

Steve was a longtime member of Brookstone Church, a testament to his steadfast faith and community spirit. His devotion to his church and his loved ones defined much of his life’s purpose and brought warmth to all who knew him.

Steve is survived by his sisters, Gail Elaine Parker and Kathy Charlene Parker; his beloved niece, Angela Leatherwood and her husband Scott; special great-nieces: Leah Treadway, Kyeler Johnson, and Kaizlee Johnson; and special great-nephew, Gauge Webb. He was also fortunate to share close friendships and memorable fishing adventures with his best friends and fishing buddies, Bobby Robinson and Mike Williams. In addition he is survived by many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Parker and Betty Louise Carter Parker; his brother, James "Ronnie" Parker; and his sister, Gloria Jean Parker.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM in the Chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home located at 1428 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806.
