With heavy hearts, we announce the untimely passing of William "Will" Boyd Gilbert, III, who left us suddenly on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in Asheville, North Carolina. Born on November 16, 1991, Will’s life journey began in Newport News, Virginia. He spent his formative years in St. Albans, West Virginia, where he lived much of his early life and graduated from St. Albans High School, class of 2010.
In 2013, at the age of 22, Will embarked on a new chapter by moving to Asheville, North Carolina. He was initially employed at Milkco Inc., a dairy processing plant, where he worked for several years. However, his desire to help others led him on another path, which was managing and operating two homes that were part of the Oasis Recovery Center. Will’s diligent spirit and motivation, eventually led him to own and successfully operate the Asheville Waterproofing Company. He took great pride in serving satisfied customers across Western North Carolina, a testament to his hard work and dedication to his craft.
Will was a man of many passions, known for his charismatic personality and unmistakable flair. He valued spending quality time with his beloved daughter, Alina Rae Gilbert, cherishing every moment they shared in play and laughter. He also loved nature, finding peace and joy in hiking with his dog Lito in the mountains that surround Asheville. Fitness was integral to his life; he committed many hours to the gym, maintaining a well-groomed appearance and always presenting himself with style and impeccable shoes, his obsession when it came to his wardrobe. Many genres of music was also a source of pleasure for him.
He is survived by his loving partner of seven years, Sierra Cauble, who stood by his side through life’s journey. Will’s roots remain strong through his devoted parents, Kimberly Ann Burks Rymer and Kenneth (KD) Rymer of St. Albans, W.Va., who nurtured him with love and guidance. He is also remembered fondly by his sister, Bethany Anne DeGier and her husband Dawson, nephew Jameson Lee, and niece Hallee Marie of Wilmington, N.C. Will’s father William Boyd Gilbert, Jr., his partner Martha Fischer, and his mother, Jean Gilbert of Lancaster, Pa., also mourn his passing and celebrate his life.
William "Will" Boyd Gilbert, III was a beacon of warmth, perseverance, and charm. His legacy will live on in his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched, which were many for a man so young. As we honor his memory, we hold close the powerful imprint he has left on our hearts.
