Zenus Earl Ledford, a dedicated Realtor and a man of remarkable passions, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in Swannanoa, North Carolina. Born on June 14, 1943, in Pensacola, North Carolina, Zenus lived a life marked by commitment, artistry, and devotion to both his profession and loved ones.
Zenus served his country honorably in the United States Navy, a testament to his sense of duty and patriotism. Following his military service, he embarked on a career as a Realtor in Western North Carolina, a region he truly cherished. For over 25 years, he helped countless individuals find their perfect homes, bringing not only expertise but genuine care to every interaction. His passion for architecture enriched his work and inspired those who knew him.
Beyond his professional life, Zenus was a man of diverse interests and a deep reservoir of talent. He was an accomplished professional ballroom dancer in his younger years, with the remarkable experience of competing around the world and Europe. This chapter of his life reflected his elegance, discipline, and love of the art form. At home, he was a devoted caretaker of his beloved pets, especially his cats, who brought him great joy and companionship.
Zenus is survived by his son, John Christopher Ledford; his brother, Charles Ledford; and his sisters, Frances Messer and Jean Shaw. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will remember him with affection and respect. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bis Ledford and Thelma Metcalf Ledford; and his brother, Bruce Ledford.
A service to honor his life will be held at a later date at the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Zenus Earl Ledford’s life was one of honor, passion, and kindness—a legacy that will be treasured by all who had the privilege to know him. He touched many lives through his dedication to serving others, his artistic spirit, and his unwavering love for his family. His memory will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.
